Sunrisers Hyderabad Squad, Team, Player List IPL 2016
Sunrisers Hyderabad replaced the franchise of Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from the 2013 season onward. The IPL 9 will be their fourth year of participation in the tournament with their best performance coming in their debut season when they finished fourth. The Sunrisers Hyderabad squad can be found below.
Having finished sixth in IPL 7, Sunrisers Hyderabad made big changes to their squad for IPL 8 but could not improve on their sixth position.
Hyderabad’s squad had 23 players for IPL 8. Only 13 of these players were retained from the previous edition’s squad and 10 new players were brought into the franchise. The 23 players’ squad comprised of 15 domestic players and eight overseas players.
Devastating Australian opener David Warner was retained and was promoted to the captaincy of the franchise for IPL 8. Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan, although retained, had to relinquish the captaincy which he got in the previous edition of IPL.
South African pace spearhead – and one of the most lethal fast bowlers in world cricket – Dale Steyn, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma, Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques, all-rounder Karn Sharma and Indian batsman Naman Ojha were some of the players who kept their place in the squad.
Indian youngsters like Chama Milind, wicket-keeper batsman Lokesh Rahul and Ricky Bhui – who was also the youngest player in the squad at 19 years of age – were also given another chance by the franchise to showcase their talent on this stage.
The 10 new faces in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad included internationally renowned players like New Zealand fast-bowler Trent Boult, Indian pacer Praveen Kumar, England batsmen Kevin Pietersen and Ravi Bopara, New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson and England One-Day International and T20 cricket team captain Eoin Morgan.
Hyderabad released 11 players from its squad for IPL 7 – which is the highest by any team in the tournament. Released players included players like Australian batsman Aaron Finch, leg-spinner Amit Mishra, former West Indies captain Darren Sammy and Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan among others.
