How to Stay Fit in Winter?

It stinks when you make a New Year’s Resolution to get fit right in the middle of winter which is one of the hardest times to get moving. It can be tough to stick with your exercise program when winter hits. Winter can frustrate the most motivated exercisers. And if you’re not so motivated, it’s all too easy to pack your workout gear away with your summer clothes.

The key to staying motivated during the winter is first, to make it as easy as possible to do your workouts and, second, to recognize when you’re starting to get bored with your workouts and make a change before you really lose interest. The following suggestions will give you some ideas for making winter exercise more comfortable and more interesting:

Walk indoors: Walking is a good way to stay fit and healthy. However, in order to avoid cold weather of winter, you can simply replace your outdoor sessions by walking indoors, probably in the living area of your room. Walking indoors makes you feel safe and provides a dry, warm temperature to do it.

Climb stairs: Another good winter workout is to climb the stairs rather than using elevators. Be it your house or office building or even a shopping mall, climbing the stairs few times a day is a great work out.

Yoga: A great way to unite body, spirit and mind. Join a yoga class or take advantage of services which are offered free to the public.

Get involved in household activities: Doing household activities also counts as a winter workout for staying fit and healthy during winter. Sweep the floor, vacuum the house, or decorate the home and make it fun.

Join a Gym: Well if you can’t work out outdoors because of the low temperature, try joining a gym. It’s a great way to burn those calories indoors. The winter season months are an excellent time for weight training.

Buy home exercise equipment: Home exercise equipment, such as a treadmill or stationary bike, is perfect for indoor workouts during winter. This equipment is ideally suited to a warm, secure environment.

Do the Salsa: Ballroom dancing is all the rage and it’s not surprising that it gets you fit and makes you feel amazing. There are numerous dance classes that offer you these services. Don’t feel shy, go ahead and join one.

Adventure sports: If you are an adventure junkie, go ahead and try some adventure sports. You can try biking, water motor sports, rock climbing, trekking etc.
When it’s cold outdoors, there’s no need to hit the couch. With a little knowledge and fortitude, you can meet the challenges and reap the rewards of winter exercise. Don’t be afraid to break out of the old routine and try something different, even if it’s not of the same intensity as your usual workouts, doing something new can keep you motivated. Before you know it, the flowers will be out soon. All the winter bears will start waking up. But you, my friend, may already be ahead of them in the journey of fitness.
